The Cooking School at  Patio Mexica

Monica Duran Perez, fluent in English and Spanish has combined her love of teaching with her natural talent for cooking traditional and regional specialties, to offer affordable, casual and friendly cooking classes in the La Madera neighborhood. Monica is educated in food preparation and handling and has won regional cooking competitions for her creative use of local and specialty ingredients.

Small class size (6 persons) is designed to allow students the opportunity to interact with Monica, learn about the culture and traditions and participate in the preparation of each dish.

Wednesdays, Monica teaches a popular class on shopping in the mercado.  Class begins with a lesson on the common Spanish vocabulary needed to shop locally and then proceeds to the mercado with a list of ingredients to purchase for a basic menu.

Class Shedule

Wednesdays: 10:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Learn how to shop locally for fresh food in the mercado. Wear comfortable shoes and being a hat, the class will walk to the farmers' market and return to the shady cocina at Patio Mexica to preapare and share a light meal uding the purchsed ingredients.

Saturdays: 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Each week, Monica sill teach students about the preparation of a popular Mexican dish. Chile Rellenos, Enchiladas, Fish a la talla, Pozole are some of Monica's specialities.

Students should bring a container to take their dish home for dinner.

Cost per 3 hour class: $250 pesos/person plus the cost of ingredients.
